Kahn and Egan’s Law
The rich get rich and the poor get poorer.
The line is from Ain’t We Got Fun by Gus Kahn and Raymond B. Egan. The verse in full goes:
There’s nothing surer
The rich get rich and the poor get poorer
In the meantime in between time
Ain’t we got fun.
This was written in 1921 with the ‘meantime’ lasting eight years - until the great crash of 1929. The basic thought has been around for a while. John Ray included ‘Money begets money’ in his 1670 collection of English Proverbs.
