O’Neill’s Rule
All politics is local.
Former speaker of the house Tip O’Neill used this saying in the title of a memoir that he wrote with the help of Gary Hymel - All Politics Is Local: And Other Rules of the Game (1993). Among O’Neill’s other rules:
1. No contribution is too small.
2. Avoid bunk.
3. To be a successful public speaker, memorise poetry.
4. Never be introduced at a sporting event; the crowd will only boo.
5. Remember names.
6. Tip well.
