Sattler’s Law
The grapefruit juice will always hit you in the eye.
As reported by H. Allen Smith: “There are thirty-two points in the compass, meaning that there are thirty-two directions in which a spoon can squirt grapefruit, yet a professor of chemistry named Louis Sattler has found that the juice invariably flies straight to the human eye” (A Short History of Fingers 1963).
Sattler’s Law is more or less the reverse of (Theodore) Bernstein’s First Law which ensures that desired objects always fly as a far as possible away from you, and both are particular examples of the universal tendency of unwanted things to happen (and wanted things to not happen). For example: Take an umbrella when you go out, and the sun will surely shine; forget the umbrella and you will be caught in the rain. To ensure a truly torrential rain, it is best to neglect the umbrella and wear a freshly pressed suit.
