Hello, goodbye to SEO

After nearly two years working in the search engine optimisation industry, I’m going to be hopping in my yellow submarine and sailing off in pursuit of a new career.  Seeing as this is highly likely to be my last ever blog for SEO Company, I thought I’d invite everyone who has read my blogs in the past to come together while I share what I have learned from my time in SEO.

Now, this isn’t a plea for Help!, I mean, I’ve been doing SEO eight days a week for the last couple of years so people don’t need to read this and be thinking, ‘I want to hold your hand’.  I’m no paperback writer, and from me to you, I feel fine – I just thought it would be nice if I was able to cover what I have learned from this wonderful industry.

First of all, I have seen the hugely positive effect it can have on businesses.  While it’s common knowledge that money can’t buy me love, it’s now well-known that sensible investment in SEO services can contribute to an improved organic ranking position.  In the cutthroat modern business environment, it’s a sad non-truth that all you need is love.  No, you need much more than love.  You need quality content, you need a user-friendly website with intuitive navigation, you need to be socially active and you need to be able to convert visitors.  It doesn’t matter if your name is Eleanor Rigby, who owns a business called ‘Lady Madonna’ with a beautiful little shop on Penny Lane, if you don’t have a web presence, you are unlikely to achieve success.

It’s been a long and winding road for many businesses in the current difficult economic climate, but thanks to my time with SEO Company, I’ve come to realise that we can work it out.  We won’t just let it be.  We will never just let it be.  We have the ability to help businesses achieve great success online, meaning the owners of the organisations we help can get back to focusing on developing their company offline.  Only yesterday I saw a friend of mine called Jude who owns a small business selling ‘The Beatles’ memorabilia – he’s a bit of a day tripper, and was visiting Chester.  He was on the bus, so I sat next to him and said, “Hey Jude, have you got a ticket to ride?”  Oh, the mirth!  We laughed and laughed, but it soon became clear that his trip to Chester (and his bus ticket!) was funded by the success of his small business thanks to the power of search engine optimisation.  It had been a hard day’s night for Jude, but he invested wisely and he was reaping the rewards.

Now, I don’t want to make this sound something like my own personal Ballad of John and Yoko moment – I’m no workshy freeloader who’s prepared to spend the entire week in bed.  Let’s get real, it doesn’t matter if she loves you or not, spending that amount of time tucked up in bed can’t be good for a person’s general health.  Anyway, I don’t want this to sound like some mad, self-indulgent reflection on my achievements, but rather, I just wanted to draw people’s attention to the positive nature of what SEO Company does.

When I first started in SEO, I was unsure as to whether we would have a love me do relationship or if it would be a partnership of frustration.  Luckily, I soon realised that, like most things, the more you put into it, the more you get out of it.  I wish the best of luck to all the other staff at SEO Company, and to our dentists – the future is bright with SEO.
